The city of Tawas is quiet, relaxing, and full of friendly people. It definitely is a place to visit if you want a break from the noise of the world while still being able to enjoy restaurants, shopping, and the beach.
Enjoy the multiple shops in east Tawas. They have the kind of stores that sell unique items and are fun to browse through everything. There is a store for everyone in Tawas.
My favorite store downtown is Benjamin Franklin. It sells anything from clothes to magnets to house decor to games. Really anything you think of...they probably have it.
If it's a rainy day, don't panic! Tawas has a small and cute theatre that plays new movies as well as classics.
Check out the multiple restaurants, coffee shops, or grab some rich, creamy ice cream. There's multiple food choices in the downtown area to chose from.
Downtown also has a beautiful beach right next to the peer. View the massive boats docked, take a walk along the peer, or fly a kite on the beach. There is a tiny shack that sells kites on the beach so don't be surprised to see dozens of people flying them.
Ten minutes from downtown is the State park. As you wind your way along Lake Huron, you'll notice the beautiful lighthouse is the beginning of the park.
They have a gift shop for the lighthouse and multiple hiking trails and picnic areas at the state park. It is definitely worth checking out.
Tawas is the perfect, cute town. It is smaller than other lake side cities such as Grand Haven or Traverse City by far. However, it is still a great area for a day trip or to stop if you're passing through the area.
